Fall

Fall is coming up soon and I’m excited for the weather to cool down a bit. It’s going to be a nice change, fall is one of my favorite seasons. It is the perfect weather because no matter how much I love summer once we begin to go back to school it is way too hot. The only thing that I am worried about with winter is that viruses thrive in the cold which is really the last thing 2020 needs right now.

Halloween is kinda coming up, it’s still a little far away but I am so excited for it. It really would be the perfect halloween if there wasn’t any corona. This year halloween is on a Saturday and there is a full moon. I know that we will make the best out of it, but it’s frustrating because we all thought that we were going to just get a two week break from school then go right back, but that isn’t what happened at all.

Reader Response Analysis

For the Coroner’s Lunch, I think the meaning behind it is that there are many corrupt things in the world and that there are always two sides to the story even if you have to dig a bit to find the other one. However, with this book I think that there are some things that shouldn’t have been stretched out so much. There were just so many parts in the book when I wasn’t interested and that I wasn’t sure what the importance of it was. This book does have an interesting concept because at first you think the book is nonfiction and then they throw some things in the book and you realize it is not completely nonfiction. Overall, I liked this book, but I think that not all parts of the book have a important purpose.

The book Out of This World was a different than the types of books that I usually read. I think the meaning of the book is that some people will always find their way back to you no matter what. I really liked how each chapter was from a characters perspective so it wasn’t just one persons view of the story.  There were a couple parts in the book were I found myself uninterested because I could not find the importance of that part. That could also be because I need to work on how I read.

Hurricanes

We have two hurricanes coming up this week, which does not usually happen so this time is going very different than what we are used to. I’m not that worried about them because it’s not like we’ve never had a hurricane before. However, I am a little curious as to how school is going to work with it and if we will just follow the same procedure that we have been. At least we are more prepared than we ever have been to do online school because of a hurricane. The only bad things are if someone’s power goes out or they lose wifi.

I really like hurricanes, the rain is calming and I love watching movies during them. The only time I don’t like hurricanes is when they get really dangerous, then it’s not fun anymore. I am a little nervous about the all of the rain because of the flood in the past, but we should be fine. It’s just another bump in the road for 2020.

Becoming a More Productive Reader

During our english class in the past week I realized that I do not always push myself. It’s really easy for me to just skim reading material especially if I am not interested in it. It is really easy for me to look at the words while I’m reading but I’ll be thinking of something else and I won’t be able to focus on the material. In the week of looking into our reading strategies I learned a lot about what I can do to make myself a better reader.

I am going to start analyzing the text more for different meanings. I also realized that I do not do enough predicting while I’m reading. It will most likely make me a little bit slower with reading, but I will get the hang of it eventually. After our classes I realized I had a much more detailed understanding of what we read than I usually do. For the most part, I just need to make sure not to go back to my old reading habits.

Summer with Corona

Summer was a lot different this year for obvious reasons. It wasn’t anywhere near what I thought it was going to be, but then again I had high expectations for this summer before corona. I’m not saying I didn’t have fun because I really did, I just needed to figure out how to have fun while not catching corona. Well I really tried to not catch it for a while, however in early July I did catch it.

For me, it wasn’t bad, it felt like a minor cold. For the majority of the time I just had a sore throat and congestion, one night I had really bad chills and body aches. Eventually about one week in I lost my sense of smell and taste which was so odd. It’s really weird because it completely varies as to when someone gets those senses back. Mine have come back a lot more, but they still aren’t completely there. That does not mean that I still have it though, people can not have their senses back completely but still be over corona. I know this sounds somewhat selfish, but it’s annoying because it somewhat wasted the last bit of my summer. Some parents were unsure about me hanging out with their kids because they wanted to make sure I no longer had it, which is very understandable. It was just not the fun end of summer I was looking forward to.

First Impression

I am very excited for this class, so far I can tell that it is going to be a very structured class. In the class we share a lot of opinions and we have discussions about classwork. I am relieved because it is going to be an interesting class. At the moment the only questions that I have are just wondering what type of work we will be doing throughout the year. I am still a little bit nervous because it is a new year with a new teacher and class, but overall I am very excited to take this class.

Poem

We used to be able to go places with are friends,

We used to be able to not wear a mask everywhere we go,

We used to be able to visit with our grandparents without worry,

We used to be able to travel easily,

We used to be able to eat in the cafeteria with our friends.

But now it’s different.

Now we have to stay six feet apart at all times,

Now we can’t visit our family members without worrying about them,

Now we have to quarantine if we get the slightest cold,

Now we have to change how we live to keep people safe.
